Mbale CAP

The 10 Million Trees project coordinates large scale tree planting to encourage the regeneration of heavily deforested areas of Mbale. This project is critical in boosting the climate resilience of the area, as well as acting as a preventative to the landslides that affect the region. The 10 Million Trees project is fully funded through the Welsh Government in partnership with Welsh charity, Size of Wales.


So far 4 million trees have been planted in schools, gardens and on farming land across Mbale. One of the key priorities over the coming year is to initiate a Carbon Financing scheme. A small amount of funding has been allocated to deliver this initiative and procure the necessary expert services locally however the tree planting team will need to take the following steps and are looking for support from Wales to assist them in this process :

  • Implementation of a feasibility study/assessment
  • Guidance on context specific implementation of recommended carbon offsetting scheme
  • Support to project leadership with implementation plan for a sustained community-based carbon offsetting scheme and best land use practices.
  • The main focus of this placement will be supporting, mentoring and coaching the tree planting project manger in his role to deliver this initiative, and not to have a hands on role in the actual delivery.


The person applying for this opportunity may have some or all of the following skills;

  •   Experience of managing a team/department/organisation
  •   Setting direction, strategic planning
  •   Project management
  •   Coaching and mentoring
  •   Leadership experience
  •   Organisation level resource management
  •   People management

We recognise that carbon financing is a very niche area of expertise and whilst, knowledge in this area would be helpful, we are primarily looking for someone with broader skills and experience as outlined above.
